MALIBU MOVES PARTNERSHIP

Three Years Running: MEF and Malibu Moves Are Going the Distance Together

You don’t have to be a runner. You just have to show up.

There's something fitting about a road race and a school foundation building something together.

Both are about showing up — putting one foot in front of the other, even when the conditions aren't perfect, even when the course is harder than expected, even when you've been through something that would give anyone a reason to stop.

Malibu has been through that. And Malibu Moves and MEF have both kept going.

How the partnership began

MEF first partnered with Malibu Moves in October 2024, joining the road race as a charity partner and bringing Malibu school families to the start line. The alignment was immediate and obvious: Malibu Moves is one of the few events that draws the entire community together — runners and walkers, families and longtime residents, people who grew up here and people who found their way here. That's exactly the audience MEF needs to reach, and exactly the spirit MEF is trying to build on.

The 2024 race raised $22,050 for MEF. In a school year defined by fires, displacement, and disruption, that number meant something beyond the dollars.

Year two — running toward recovery

The 2025 Malibu Moves took place against the backdrop of the Palisades and Franklin fires, and the race organizers made a decision that said everything about this community's values: proceeds were directed toward fire relief as well as local eduction, with explicit alignment to the learning loss Malibu's students had experienced. MEF and Malibu Moves weren't just running together — they were recovering together.

The 2025 race raised $30,000 for MEF, while also supporting the Fire Brigades and the Emily Shane Foundation’s SEA program.

Year three — going further

This October, MEF returns as Malibu Moves' primary charity partner for the third consecutive year. We're going further this time — with a dedicated TEAM MEF entry option, a fundraising goal, and a presence at the race that reflects how far MEF has come since we ran our first mile together.

If you've been thinking about joining Malibu Moves, this is the year. Run or walk. Bring your kids. Bring your neighbors. Wear your MEF gear if you have it — and if you don't, we'll fix that.

Every mile you run is a mile run for Malibu's students.

This October 24th and 25th at Zuma Beach, MEF returns as Malibu Moves' official charity partner for the third consecutive year. And this year, we want every Malibu family at the start line — regardless of whether you've ever run a race before.

I ran the 5K last year. My review: "It's incredible. The course runs along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world. You don't need to be a runner to do it — you just need to want to be part of something."

That's the spirit of Malibu Moves. It's not a race for serious athletes — it's a weekend for the community. There's something for everyone across both days:

Saturday: Race Pack Expo, Kids Run, activities, and the 1-Mile Zuma Dash — perfect for families with younger kids or anyone who wants to ease in.

Sunday: The 5K and Half Marathon on iconic PCH — scenic, accessible, and genuinely one of the best ways to experience the Malibu coastline.

Walk it. Run it. Cheer from the sidelines. Volunteer. However you show up, you're part of it.

Every mile you run is a mile run for Malibu's students. For the instructional aides in the classroom on Tuesday morning. For the arts teacher on Thursday afternoon. For the academic support staff that keeps every student moving forward.

For Malibu families, this race means something extra — a chance to move forward together. We hope you'll be part of it.
